Caramelized Slow Roast Asian Beef Short Rib – Tender, Sticky & Packed with Umami

  • 2 pounds beef short ribs
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  3. Add the beef short ribs to the bowl and coat them thoroughly with the marinade.
  4. Place the ribs in a roasting pan and cover tightly with aluminum foil.
  5. Roast in the oven for 3 hours, checking occasionally.
  6. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes to caramelize the ribs.
  7. Once done, let them rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the ribs overnight.
  • Serve with steamed rice and bok choy.
