Nanaimo Bars

Nanaimo Bars are a delicious no-bake dessert filled with layers of chocolate, custard, and graham cracker.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons custard powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, cocoa powder, sugar, melted butter, and shredded coconut. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 8-inch square pan.
  2. In another bowl, beat together powdered sugar, custard powder, and softened butter. Spread this mixture over the first layer in the pan.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt together the chocolate and butter over low heat. Once melted, pour the chocolate over the custard layer and spread evenly.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Chill the bars for longer for a firmer texture.
  • Experiment with different types of chocolate for the top layer.
