Salted Caramel Cake

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, drizzle the salted caramel sauce over the top of one cake layer before placing the second layer on top.
  10. Spread more salted caramel sauce over the top and let it drizzle down the sides.

Notes

  • For an extra flavor boost, add a pinch of sea salt on top of the caramel.
  • This cake can be made a day in advance for better flavor.
